Post Mortem Technique Handbook, 2nd ed, 2005

Post Mortem Technique Handbook, 2nd ed,
Michael T. Sheaff, Deborah J. Hopste.
ISBN-10: 185233813X
ISBN-13: 978-1852338138

Post Mortem Techniques Handbook 2e is a comprehensive practical guide to performing the modern post mortem. The text is well illustrated and presented by system. The book covers both the standard evisceration techniques and the many different dissection techniques that may be necessary in a variety of circumstances likely to be encountered by a practising pathologist. As the retained organ commission sets the international agenda, this book comes at an appropriate time with autopsy and audit being more and more important due to 30-40% of death certificates being wrong. This new and thoroughly revised edition will include guidelines output from the Royal College of Pathologists, and from the American College of Pathology. A must-have for all those who conduct post mortems, this book is aimed at pathologists in training, medical students, and mortuary technicians.

Robbins Basic Pathology, 8th ed. 2007

Robbins Basic Pathology: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access
(Robbins Pathology)
Vinay Kumar, Abul K. Abbas, Nelson Fausto, and Richard Mitchell
ISBN-10: 1416029737
ISBN-13: 978-1416029731

The book maximises on presentation by using clear headings and sub headings, good quality colour plates, diagrams and tables. In common with many other Elsevier books, it's attractively presented. The authors are keen for the reader to learn about the advances in the field and have included details of these breakthroughs. The pathology textbook I bought as a student was just under half the price of this one and was left mostly on the shelf being largely unreadable with monochrome only illustrations and no extra features.

NMS Pathology, 3rd ed. 1993

NMS Pathology
(National Medical Series for Independent Study)
Virginia A. LiVolsi, Maria J. Merino, John S.J. Brooks, Scott H. Saul, et al.
ISBN-10: 0683062433
ISBN-13: 978-0683062434
Lippincott Williams and Wilkins

Detailed yet concise, this book uses a comprehensive outline format and is organized in the way that pathology is taught at most medical schools. New to this edition are: the addition of a transplantation chapter, which covers general immunologic mechanisms and pathologic features of transplant rejection, organ-specific transplantation pathology (kidney, liver, heart, lung, bone marrow), graft-versus host disease, and complications of transplantation; K-type questions have been eliminated and replaced by case-based or clinically oriented questions; and a moderate increase in tables and diagrams, to "break-up" dense outlined text. The NMS outline format provides a logical organization of pathology concepts and eliminates unnecessary words and detail.
