The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology: Definitions, Criteria and Explanatory Notes, 1st ed. 2010

The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology: Definitions, Criteria and Explanatory Notes
Syed Z. Ali and Edmund S. Cibas
ISBN-10: 0387876650
ISBN-13: 978-0387876658

Until now, there has been no uniform system for reporting the results of thyroid fine needle aspiration (FNA) in the U.S. The terminology framework described in this book is an important advance in the field of cytopathology. It is a brainchild of the multidisciplinary National Cancer Institute Thyroid Fine Needle Aspiration State of The Science Conference, held in Bethesda, MD in October, 2007. This book will provide the reader with a unified approach to diagnosing and reporting thyroid FNA interpretations. It will serve as a reference guide not just for pathologists, but also endocrinologists, surgeons, and radiologists.

Thyroid FNA is one of the most commonly performed cytologic procedures and is the standard diagnostic method for managing the patient with a thyroid nodule. In the past, ambiguous and inconsistent diagnostic criteria and terminology have hampered sample interpretation and patient management. It is hoped that, by bringing together national and international thyroid experts from diverse disciplines, the book will achieve its goal: to provide the reader with a generously illustrated and user-friendly reference on this unified approach to thyroid diagnostic criteria and reporting. The book will succinctly summarize and illustrate the salient points in the diagnosis of the non-neoplastic and neoplastic thyroid diseases. The chapters will be set up as follows: 1. Background, 2. Criteria, 3. Explanatory Notes, and 4. Sample reports.

The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Cytology: Definitions, Criteria, and Explanatory Notes, 2nd ed. 2004

The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Cytology: Definitions, Criteria, and Explanatory Notes
Diane Solomon, Ritu Nayar, D.D. Davey and D.C. Wilbur
ISBN-10: 0387403582
ISBN-13: 978-0387403588

This new edition of The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical Cytology has been extensively updated and revised to reflect the new 2001 Bethesda terminology as well as methodological advances in cervical cytology. The handbook has now been expanded to include more than 185 full color illustrations (three times the number of color images in the first edition). New to the Second Edition are sections that address ancillary testing, including HPV, the inclusion of educational notes and recommendations, computerized screening, and anal cytology, as well as sample reports. In line with recent advances, the text and images will address liquid-based cytology in addition to conventional cytology. In addition to its user-friendly outline format, the inclusion of an index will allow the reader easier access to the information. A must-have for pathologists, cytopathologists, pathology residents, cytotechnologists, and clinicians.

Introduction to Histopathology, 2nd ed. 1998

Introduction to Histopathology, 1998
Bela Szende and Zsuzsanna Suba
ISBN 963 242 509 X
MEDICINA

The primary aim of this book is to provide guidance in the study of histologic slides of the pathology course. For this reason we are following the outlines of the pathology course; the topic is divided into two parts, a general and a special pathology section. The book also presents examples of histologic slides which are part of the pathology course for medical and dental students. We are introducing pathologic entities which are characteristic and should assist in more effective learning of the theoretical part of the course. However, space does not permit the presentation of many important lesions. The explanatory text includes the definition of individual pathologic entities, a brief description of the gross findings followed by an analysis of the m icroscopic changes, sometimes in greater detail than seen on the microphotographs. Where needed, microphotos of lower and higher magnification have been provided. Beside the standard hematoxylin-eosin stain we have used, where particularly helpful, special stains. For better orientation, certain microscopic structures have been pointe out by letters. We hope that this book will accomplish its goal and will not only guide the students in their laboratory course but will also supplement the pathology textbook."

Nanopathology: The Health Impact of Nanoparticles, 1st ed. 2008

Nanopathology: The Health Impact of Nanoparticles
Stefano Montanari and Antonietta M. Gatti
ISBN-10: 9814241008
ISBN-13: 978-9814241007

Enormous funds are currently being invested in nanotechnology, yet very little is known about how its products and by-products can interfere with both end users and people involved in their manufacture. Similar scenarios are already widely known in the history of science, such as the exploitation of radioactivity or the controversial issue of genetically modified organisms. As nanoparticles are more or less voluntarily produced, they are almost uncontrollably disseminated in the environment and in organisms and thus constitute a growing concern. By describing the impact of nanoparticles (and microparticles) on human and animal health, this book offers the first criteria for preventing potential problems deriving from these particles.
